Can I download an eBook from Drew Library? How does it work?

Answer

eBooks may be downloaded directly from Drew Library’s ebook databases, including those ebooks accessible through Scholarsearch. There will be some variations in process, but in general they're similar. Once you have selected the title you want to download, follow the steps below:

For books hosted on an EBSCO platform (see screenshot below), click on the "pdf full text" to read the book in your browser.  Clicking this link will bring you to the page where you can read the book online, download and print select chapters, and if available, download the book in its entirety. (see 2nd screenshot).

In the book entry (see screenshot below for sample) the reader will find info about availability and permissions associated with the eBook, e.g. single use or unlimited access, or other. Because the Drew Library purchases eBook licenses from a variety of vendors, this page will look slightly different depending on which vendor supplied the eBook.

NOTE: for eBooks published by EBSCO, you will need to sign up for a free, separate “My EBSCOhost” account before downloading an ebook. This account is wholly separate from your Drew account and cannot be accessed using your Drew username and password. Please go HERE (or to the link below) for a video demonstrating the registration process.

If you'd like the option to download the eBook, select the "full download" (see screeshot below).

When prompted, sign into your free EBSCO account using the credentials you created.

Once you have created and/or signed into your account, you will be prompted to select the file format of your download. This prompt will also list how long you are able to download the book for (borrowing times may vary depending on the specific book). Note: depending on your reading preference, you may wish to download the free Adobe Digital Editions software. If you do not have it installed, you can follow the link on the prompt to do so. You will only need to download this software once, and it will work for all eBooks no matter the publisher. Please go HERE (or to link below) for a video demonstration.
