I've found an article, but how can I save it?

Answer

Databases generally offer similar (but different!) options for saving your research, so the process for saving an article will depend on where it was found.

You might wish to consider using a citation manager as a great option for managing your research. Using a citation manager will require some planning and set-up ahead of time, but it is well worth the effort. For more info about citation managers, consult our guide to Citation Tools and Applications. (Or keep an eye on our Library Events Calendar for an upcoming workshop!)

A good number of Drew's Library resources are provided by two different vendors: EBSCO and ProQuest. Their interfaces have differences, but the overall functions are the same. By selecting an article from your search results, several options will become available:

  • saving the article to Google Drive
  • emailing the article record, including the permalink (sometimes you can email the PDF if it's available, by making sure the "PDF as separate attachment" is selected)
  • exporting the citation to a citation manager
  • viewing/copying the permalink to the article.

If the article is available as a PDF, you can download this version to save as well.

Another option to consider is saving the article to a folder within the database itself. Being an authenticated Drew user (i.e. logging into Drew Library resources using your Drew credentials) is not enough to save your research in individual databases. In order to save your research you must create an account in the database with new login credentials. EBSCO prompts users to create a MyEBSCO account, and ProQuest's similar feature is called "My Research".

The Using ScholarSearch Guide goes into further detail on using EBSCO databases, such as how to set up your MyEBSCO account.

As always, please contact the Library at email: reference@drew.edu if additional help is needed.
