I'm having problems accessing an eBook. What should I do?
Answer
- Are you off campus? If so, make sure you are signed in correctly with your Drew username and password when prompted. This will allow you to access eBooks and library databases through the university’s proxy server.
- Where are you trying to access the eBook from? eBooks can be accessed from a variety of places, e.g. Drew Library’s catalog, an ebook database, Scholarsearch, and more. If you are trying to access the eBook from a different source (like Google) or foreign link, you may not be able to access it. Contact the Library at email: reference@drew.edu for assistance.
- Is the eBook available? Drew Library purchases eBook licenses from a variety of vendors, each with their own specific borrowing rules. Often, only one copy of an eBook can be borrowed electronically at a time, so look for the “Availability” note under the item in the library catalog to see if the item is available. eBook titles can only be borrowed for five days, so make sure to check frequently to see if a desired title is available for borrowing.
- Are you reading online, or trying to download the eBook? Downloading eBooks often requires free, third-party software in order to read the material offline. Reading an eBook online can be done directly in your browser and does not require additional software. For more on downloading eBooks, consult the library’s FAQ download an eBook from Drew Library.
- If you are off campus and experiencing network issues beyond just eBook access (cannot access the library website, cannot access library databases, etc.), try these steps listed on the library’s technology troubleshooting FAQ.
